When We Are One
Installation for the International Symposium of Electronic Art Brisbane Powerhouse, 2024

"When We Are One" ventures into a speculative future, where the relationship between humans and plants is reimagined through the lens of symbiosis. Departing from traditional narratives of posthumanism which often depict a transcendence of the human being achieved through technology, this work aims to subvert the technology and present a more empathetic viewpoint.

Created with emmergent and AI technology the artwork explores the intricate interactions between human, non-human, and technology.

This project was created during a Creative Victoria Creators Fund development.

The large projection tells a story about a future when humans and plants become one.The other 2 channels sit separatly but conversing with each other through using only interjections, expressions that occur as an utterance on its own and expresses a spontaneous feeling or reaction.

In contrast to typical words and sentences, the function of most interjections is related to an expression of feeling, rather than representing some idea or concept.

This work also served as an exploration of communication on a personal level, delving into the struggles of two beings to converse in a manner that is mutually understandable. It delves into deeply human issues surrounding communication and miscommunication, while also scrutinising the shortcomings of technology in accurately conveying human emotions.
