Yandell Walton is a highly regarded artist based in Melbourne whose work spans across moving image, installation, and digital media. Her installations are known for their immersive nature, blurring the lines between the real and the virtual, and exploring ideas of impermanence in relation to environmental, social, and political issues. Yandell aims to engage and inspire action from individuals towards a collective consciousness within an ever-changing and increasingly damaged planet.
Driven by her emotional responses to the climate crisis, Yandell's recent research focuses on ecological shifts in landscape due to human impact. Her site-specific works have been situated within the natural landscape, in urban contexts, and non-traditional gallery spaces, investigating histories, speculative futures, and our connection to land and site.
Yandell's works have been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally in galleries and non-traditional public spaces, including Rising Festival, Dark Mofo, Light City Festival Baltimore, Digital Graffiti Florida, and the White Night Festival Melbourne. Her works have also been featured in Experimenta Speak to Me and the PUBLIC Festival Perth. In 2013, Yandell's work was selected for the International Symposium of Electronic Art (ISEA), highlighting her achievements in the field.
Yandell is a pioneer in her field, consistently challenging the use of technology within her production and presentation. She has received numerous accolades, including the Australian Network for Art and Technology IDEATE grant and the Philip Hunter Fellowship in 2021. Her work connects to a broad audience, inspiring action towards a more sustainable future.
